So, what would you like to know?

The whole content-management-part of bshort.org is run by Movable Type v2.65. It's old, but it works well for me.

All the code was written in Emacs, which is simply the best editor ever. Down with vi.

All the pictures, well, the vast majority of them, were taken on a Nikon D70. I really really love my D70, but I'll never buy another Nikon as long as they insist on encrypting the white-balance data in the RAW files. My pictures are *mine*, dammit, and encrypting the output of a sensor puts a barrier between the user and their property.

I get a fair number of questions about lenses which can all be answered with the following: yes, I know you love your zoom lens, but it sucks. And not just a little. Unless you're going to pony up for one of the really really serious zooms, you'd be better off buying a $200 35mm f/2 or a $99 50mm f/1.8. Prime lenses these days are stunning and the quality you get with a prime is going to outclass anything you get from a zoom, unless you're spending more than a thousand. Also, the minor limitations of a prime are good for you.

I process all my pictures in Photoshop CS on a Macintosh Powerbook and I store and manage all my processed photos with iPhoto. I use Photon for publishing to my photo blog (this site) and Flickr Export for uploading to Flickr.

My Current Lens Line-up

Are you a former classmate / friend / enemy / confidant who has lost touch with me over the years and is googling for my name? Are you looking for Brian Short?
